On August 15, 2019, Li Yanxi, deputy general manager of our company, and Li Shuai, sales engineer, were invited to visit the "COSCO Shipping Kilimanjaro" ship at Tianjin Binhai Container Terminal.
The cable plays a vital role in the operation of the dock mooring, because the larger the ship is, the tug is needed to assist the ship in the docking process. When "COSCO Shipping Kilimanjaro" stopped at "Jeddah Port", the following problems were encountered:
1. Tugboat assistance is required for berthing when the ship is docked.
2. In the berthing process, when the sea condition environment is poor or the tug is pushing fast, only the bow of the ship has a side thruster for braking, and the stern of the ship may directly hit the dock, resulting in a safety accident. Therefore, the berthing process must use the tugboat to brake the auxiliary brake of the ship.
3. The port tug is not equipped with a towing line, and the berthing ship needs to prepare its own towing line.
4. The port has a very high demand for towing cables due to the limited port pool, small leeway for tugs and the special location and form of bollards available for towing on container ships.
To this end, the shipowner specially invited our staff to board the ship, conduct on-site research with the captain and chief officer, and discuss solutions to prepare for a safer berth in the "Port of Jeddah".
"Cosco Shipping Kilimanjaro" is a new shipbuilding delivered in Hudongzhonghua in 2017. FBR Four Brothers Rope Industry provides supporting cables for the new shipbuilding, and the crew is very satisfied with the use of the cables.
