China's first far-reaching sea multi-functional scientific investigation and cultural relics archaeological ship started construction!
On June 25, 2023, China's first far-reaching sea multi-functional scientific investigation and cultural relic archaeological ship funded by the People's Government of Hainan Province, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Development and Construction Co., LTD., jointly with the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences officially started construction in the Nanshalom Island manufacturing workshop in Guangzhou.
Far-reaching Sea multi-functional scientific investigation and cultural relic archaeology ship is a new multi-functional scientific research ship that can carry out deep-sea scientific investigation and cultural relic archaeology, and can carry out polar sea area investigation in summer. The ship is equipped with landmark functions such as unrestricted water navigation, manned deep diving, deep sea exploration, comprehensive operation support, heavy safety load, etc. It provides required samples and environmental data for the research of far-reaching Marine geology, environment and life science related frontier issues, provides relevant disciplinary guidance and underwater operation support for deep-sea archaeology, and supports the sea test and application of deep-sea core technology and equipment.
The design length of the ship is about 103 meters, the design draft displacement is about 9200 tons, the speed is 16 knots, the ice is broken in both directions, the ice area is strengthened to reach PC4 level, the endurance is 15,000 nautical miles, and the crew is 80 people. The ship is expected to be completed in 2025 and put into operation at sea.
In the future, the far-reaching Sea multi-functional scientific investigation and cultural relics and archaeology ship will become an open and shared maritime platform with multi-system integration, multi-disciplinary crossover and collaborative action innovation in China, which is of great significance to strengthening China's substantial presence in the global deep sea, including the polar sea areas and manned/unmanned deep diving operations, improving China's deep-sea archaeological operations, and realizing the global deep-sea access.
He Guangwei, Deputy chief engineer of China Shipbuilding International Co., LTD. : The function of this ship is to carry out manned deep-diving scientific research activities in the polar regions, while taking into account the functions of cultural relics and archaeology as well as the relevant functions of the South China Sea operation. The ship has a lot of key technologies, the ship in the polar ice-breaking ability, polar anti-freezing materials, in the polar scientific research control equipment, detection equipment and other related technical difficulties. Since 2010, Guangshan International has participated in many polar projects and accumulated relevant technologies. At the same time, based on this ship as a platform, we have carried out our technological iterations to meet the relevant functions of this ship to carry out scientific research activities in the polar manned submersible and achieve relevant goals. At present, China does not have a ship capable of carrying out manned deep diving scientific activities in the polar area, and the construction of this ship will make up for the gap in this field.
Tang Gulashan, director of the Marine Equipment and Operation Management Center of the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences: The important use of deep-sea scientific research and cultural relics archaeological ship is still based on the original foundation of our deep sea. In the past, we may be in the South China Sea and then to the abyss, which is the two stages of our development in the early stage, in fact, we often talk about the four new frontiers, that is, the network, the sky, the deep sea and the polar region, in fact, one of our important places is the polar region, which is actually the deep sea, so this is the third stage of our deep sea. In the future, the ship will sail to the polar regions of the North and South poles to do corresponding scientific research work, which is an important transformation of the deep-sea scene.
